License Policy

1. One base price, three tiers — and free downloads

Each dataset has a single public base price set by the seller, in USD. Your tier multiplies it: Research ×0.8, Non-Exclusive Commercial ×1.0, Exclusive ×3.0. The multipliers and the rights are platform-wide and fixed, so the delta between tiers is always clear. Non-Exclusive Commercial is self-serve and bought directly through the platform checkout. Research and Exclusive are arranged with us directly — contact legal@sansavision.com and we issue the same fixed terms under a written arrangement.

Datasets with a base price of 0 — including the Sansavision public catalog of curated open-access research datasets — skip tier selection entirely. For them we provide a free download only; we do not grant our own tier rights over the underlying data. The original upstream license published by the source project governs your use, and it is your responsibility to review that license and do the necessary homework before any use, including commercial use.

2. Research (×0.8) — by contact

For labs, students, and non-commercial research. You may use the dataset for model training and evaluation, and publish academic results with attribution. You may not use it in commercial products or services, and you may not redistribute the raw files. The license is perpetual, non-transferable, and applies to your organization only.

Research licenses are not bought through checkout. Contact us (legal@sansavision.com) with your institution and intended use; we verify the non-commercial purpose and issue your license key with the same fixed terms and immutable snapshot as any other grant.

3. Non-Exclusive Commercial (×1.0) — self-serve

Everything in Research, plus the right to train models for commercial use and deploy them in products and services, with unlimited seats within your organization. Models trained on the data may serve customers; the raw dataset itself may still not be resold or redistributed. The seller may continue granting licenses to others.

This is the self-serve tier: select it on the dataset page, pay through the platform checkout, and your license key is issued the moment payment clears.

4. Exclusive (×3.0) — by contact

Everything in Commercial, plus exclusivity: once the arrangement is signed and your payment clears, the dataset is delisted and no further licenses of any tier are granted to anyone. The grant and the delist happen in one race-guarded transaction. Prior non-exclusive licenses remain valid under their original terms — exclusivity is forward-looking. You receive a contract-backed exclusivity record and full audit trail.

Exclusivity is a deliberate, contract-backed decision for both sides, so it is never a checkout click: contact us (legal@sansavision.com) and we prepare the agreement, the delisting, and the audit trail.

5. Your license key

Every paid grant issues a license key that records an immutable snapshot of these terms, the tier, the dataset version, and the grant metadata. Free downloads issue a zero-value download record for delivery and audit purposes only; your rights to the underlying data derive from the upstream license, not from SansaGroup AB. License-key snapshots are your proof of rights and govern over any later policy changes. Keys are verifiable via the license verification API.

6. Attribution and provenance

Where a dataset includes third-party components under licenses requiring attribution (e.g. Apache-2.0 or CC-BY seed data, common in the public catalog), the listing states the attribution requirement and you must comply with it. Provenance notes travel with the dataset manifest. For public-catalog datasets, the original upstream license remains applicable to the underlying data — it is your responsibility to identify, review, and comply with it.

7. What no tier allows

No tier permits resale or redistribution of the raw dataset files beyond what the upstream license allows for free public-catalog datasets, use for unlawful surveillance or re-identification of individuals, or transfer of the license to another entity without our written consent (change-of-control included). Breach of these restrictions terminates the license automatically and without notice, without prejudice to claims for damages.
